Greg diPiazza - Super G CD Review

Think you've got Greg diPiazza figured out? Think again. Maui's squirreliest singer/songwriter has dodged categorization once again with his Super G release. It seems that Super G has gotten some interest on the mainland, as well as, a little birdie has been whispering faxes of contract negotiations and entertainment attorneys. Ah! the land of recoupable advances!
So what kind of neo/funk, industrial hip-hop melodies is the G concocting? Far from any radio-play-friendly sounds, the tunes dip in and out of 4/4 time with the occasional 5, and rapped lyrics for days on end. Subjects range from hot-tubbing cowgirls to black-power themes, cryogenics and the perils of a chemical lifestyle. Oh, and there's a cover of "Sunshine of Your Love".
So what's he rappin about? well...
"the real plan is in the sand man's sleepin-weepin for the uncle peepin toms,
wu tang clan song
where the pope's dope is to find,
freedom and read em that,
all black men are created equal people!
sweet and low is blow for the doughboy, boy!"
or how's about...
"she's freezin' my reason with an icy heart,
a negative creature with subliminal parts
hypnopsychotic in her temptuous rage,
then she dances around in her freezing machine,
cryogenically laughing while she's packing her genes
and i fall asleep in my dna"
Complete your Maui music collection with a walk on the wacky side, a slice of life in the Super G lane, whatever that means.
The Collection of tunes features a handful of Maui musical collaborators, but it's G at the controls for this one.
